Managed detection & response

Find threats early. Respond with a plan.

Simba Cyber monitors the systems in your agreement around the clock, investigates suspicious activity and coordinates the response — so an alert becomes a decision, not a surprise.

Two security analysts review activity on monitors in a daylight office.

The business problem

Security tools create alerts. Someone has to act on them.

Most growing organizations already own capable security tools. Microsoft 365 and Defender produce useful signals about suspicious sign-ins, malicious email and compromised devices. The difficulty is attention: alerts arrive at night, on weekends and during the busiest part of the working day.

Without a team that reviews those alerts, decides which ones matter and knows what to do next, an early warning can become a business email compromise, a ransomware incident or a quiet data loss that nobody notices for weeks.

What Simba Cyber does

One accountable team from alert to action.

Our MDR service combines continuous monitoring with human investigation. We tune detections to your environment, triage what matters, contain threats within the authority you approve and keep your designated contacts informed with clear, plain-language updates.

  • 24/7 monitoring of the systems covered by your agreement
  • Analyst investigation before escalation, not raw alert forwarding
  • Pre-approved containment actions agreed during onboarding
  • Regular reporting on incidents, trends and recommended improvements

Common use cases

How this works in practice

Representative scenarios that show how the service responds. They are illustrations, not client case studies.

Scenario

A suspicious sign-in from another country

An employee’s account signs in from an unfamiliar location after a phishing email. We confirm the activity is malicious, revoke sessions, require a password reset and check the mailbox for forwarding rules or fraudulent messages.

Scenario

Ransomware behavior on a laptop

Defender flags rapid file changes on a finance workstation. We isolate the device within the agreed authority, identify the entry point and work with your team on safe recovery.

Scenario

A malicious OAuth application

A user grants mailbox access to an unfamiliar cloud app. We review the permissions, remove the grant and look for data access that occurred before removal.

Business outcomes

What you can expect

  • Faster, more consistent decisions when suspicious activity occurs
  • Better visibility into the threats your organization actually faces
  • Fewer unreviewed alerts and less noise for internal staff
  • Documented incidents that support insurance and compliance conversations

Delivery methodology

How we deliver

  1. 01

    Onboard

Confirm covered systems, connect telemetry, agree escalation contacts and document the response actions we may take without asking first.

  2. 02

    Baseline

Review existing alerts, tune noisy detections and record normal activity so real threats stand out.

  3. 03

    Monitor and respond

Investigate alerts as they occur, contain threats within approved authority and escalate with clear recommendations.

  4. 04

    Review

Report on incidents, trends and control gaps, then agree the next improvements with your team.

Scope and licensing considerations

Monitoring covers the systems, users and devices named in your agreement. Unconnected systems are not monitored.

Detection quality depends on your Microsoft licensing. Many Defender capabilities require Microsoft 365 Business Premium, E5 or add-on plans.

We agree in advance which containment actions we may take on your behalf and which require your approval.

Monitoring reduces risk and shortens response time. No provider can guarantee that every attack will be prevented.

Questions

Managed Detection & Response: common questions

Is the monitoring really around the clock?

Yes. MDR includes 24/7 monitoring for the systems covered by your agreement. Your agreement defines the covered systems, escalation contacts and the response actions we are authorized to take.

Do we need Microsoft 365 E5?

No. Many organizations start with Microsoft 365 Business Premium, which includes Defender for Business and core identity protections. We assess your current licensing and explain what each upgrade would add before you buy anything.

Will you take action without asking us?

Only within limits you approve. During onboarding we agree which actions are pre-authorized, such as isolating a device or revoking a session, and which require a call to your designated contact first.

How is MDR different from antivirus?

Antivirus blocks known malware on a device. MDR adds people who investigate suspicious activity across email, identity, devices and cloud apps, decide what it means and coordinate the response.

Does MDR replace our IT provider?

No. MDR focuses on threat detection and response. We work alongside your internal IT team or managed IT provider, or we can provide managed IT as a separate service.
